Description:

Learn a new and innovative approach to flourishing by building parallelograms to house your straight and curved lines in, confining them and training you to see the overall encompassing shape to then add smaller crossing or parallel lines. We look at the structure of the lines with a pencil on the Saturday and move to pointed nib and ink on the Sunday learning how to apply the flourishes to letters, words and blocks of text

This class is not about teaching you a bunch of strokes which you need to learn and then learn how to apply them to your letters. It is about showing you what the basic underlying stroke is and how it fits into a fixed geometric framework which can then be distorted to fit any flourishes for any script.

Once you understand my ‘Flourishing and its Geometric Framework’ you will not only be able to flourish more easily and accurately, if you ever run into a problem, you will have a system to understand where you made the error and more importantly, how to fix it.

You will not only learn how to execute these lines with pencils and nibs, but also what rhythm is needed to produce them slowly and rhythmically and how this is tied to your breathing.

About Paul Antonio

Paul Antonio trained as a calligrapher, gilder and heraldic artist. His studies also included Palaeography, Archaeological Illustration, Sumerian Art & Culture and Middle Kingdom Egyptian Hieroglyphs.

Paul’s love of writing the world over has led him to delving to the structure of writing from a geometric perspective where he has developed mechanical frameworks for the writing of calligraphic scripts and manuscript border decoration.

As a Reiki Master, his practice of active meditation ties in profoundly with writing and breathwork and how calligraphy connects us to a deeper spiritual field.

Paul is the author of ‘Copperplate Script – A Yin & Yang Approach’ and is the inventor of the PAScribe Lining Template and the creator of the PAScribe Hamburg Calligraphy Inks.

Please review pre-class videos:

PA: My first recommendation is the three free videos I have on YouTube covering Posture, Placement and Position. I have longer versions of these in the PAScribe Scriptorium to which I have also added my ‘PAScribe Tool Hold’ and the ‘PAScribe Muscular and Whole Arm Movement’ videos.

You can find the YouTube videos here:

The longer paid PAScribe Scriptorium Videos here

all 5 basics

This is a lifetime access which extends to updates of these videos.

The PreClass course is essential, and attendees MUST avail themselves of the material in the preclass course as this will substantially improve their tool use and line control. There are other PAScribe Scriptorium courses which are useful in helping students to understand pencil, nib & ink, marker, inks and papers.
